There should be no difference, but it's more consistent that all workspace/repo
commands use workspace_command.settings(), etc. than command.settings().
This patch moves max_new_file_size() and conflict_marker_style() to CLI, but
there isn't a clear boundary whether the configuration should be managed by
UserSettings or not. I decided to move them to CLI just because we can eliminate
.optional() handling. The default parameters are defined in config/misc.toml.
I would like to delete this alias altogether. By moving it to the
config to start with, users can start overriding it themselves, as
`commit` or whatever they prefer.
If there are multiple files in a subdirectory that are candidates for
completion, only complete the common directory prefix to reduce the number of
completion candidates shown at once.
This matches the normal shell completion of file paths.
This is heavily based on Benjamin Tan's fish completions:
https://gist.github.com/bnjmnt4n/9f47082b8b6e6ed2b2a805a1516090c8
Some differences include:
- The end of a `--from`, `--to` ranges is also considered.
- `jj log` is not completed (yet). It has a different `--revisions` argument
that requires some special handling.
Deprecation warnings will be printed there. auto_tracking_matcher(ui) could
be cached, but there aren't many callers right now, so it should be okay to
parse and emit warnings for each invocation. Other than that, the changes are
straightforward.
Jujutsu's branches do not behave like Git branches, which is a major
hurdle for people adopting it from Git. They rather behave like
Mercurial's (hg) bookmarks.
We've had multiple discussions about it in the last ~1.5 years about this rename in the Discord,
where multiple people agreed that this _false_ familiarity does not help anyone. Initially we were
reluctant to do it but overtime, more and more users agreed that `bookmark` was a better for name
the current mechanism. This may be hard break for current `jj branch` users, but it will immensly
help Jujutsu's future, by defining it as our first own term. The `[experimental-moving-branches]`
config option is currently left alone, to force not another large config update for
users, since the last time this happened was when `jj log -T show` was removed, which immediately
resulted in breaking users and introduced soft deprecations.
This name change will also make it easier to introduce Topics (#3402) as _topological branches_
with a easier model.
This was mostly done via LSP, ripgrep and sed and a whole bunch of manual changes either from
me being lazy or thankfully pointed out by reviewers.
We had both `repo()` and `mut_repo()` on `Transaction` and I think it
was easy to get confused and think that the former returned a
`&ReadonlyRepo` but both of them actually return a reference to
`MutableRepo` (the latter obviously returns a mutable reference). I
hope that renaming to the more idiomatic `repo_mut()` will help
clarify.
We could instead have renamed them to `mut_repo()` and
`mut_repo_mut()` but that seemed unnecessarily long. It would better
match the `mut_repo` variables we typically use, though.
This implements a building block of "signed-off-by line" #1399 and "commit
--verbose" #1946. We'll probably need an easy way to customize the diff part,
but I'm not sure if it can be as simple as a template alias function. User
might want to embed diffs without "JJ: " prefixes?
Perhaps, we can deprecate "ui.default-description", but it's not addressed in
this patch. It could be replaced with "default_description" template alias,
but we might want to configure default per command. Suppose we add a default
"backout_description" template, it would have to be rendered against the
source commit, not the newly-created backout commit.
The template key is named as "draft_commit_description" because it is the
template to generate an editor template. "templates.commit_description_template"
sounds a bit odd.
There's one minor behavior change: the default description is now terminated
by "\n".
Closes#1354
description_template_for_*() functions will be merged soon.
We don't need to set the default description to the second commit of the split
because its description should be kept empty if it was.
`tx.format_commit_summary()` can be expensive because it needs to build
an IdPrefixContext now, so it's best to avoid formatting instruction
messages unless they are actually required.
## Feature Description
If enabled in the user or repository settings, the local branches pointing to the
parents of the revision targeted by `jj commit` will be advanced to the newly
created commit. Support for `jj new` will be added in a future change.
This behavior can be enabled by default for all branches by setting
the following in the config.toml:
```
[experimental-advance-branches]
enabled-branches = ["glob:*"]
```
Specific branches can also be disabled:
```
[experimental-advance-branches]
enabled-branches = ["glob:*"]
disabled-branches = ["main"]
```
Branches that match a disabled pattern will not be advanced, even if they also
match an enabled pattern.
This implements feature request #2338.
It's inconsistent that some warnings have headings and some don't, and it seems
the choice is arbitrary. Let's unify the style. There are two exceptions:
1. continued line following labeled message,
2. "unrecognized response" followed by prompt.
I considered inlining tx.select_diff(), but that looked a bit cryptic because
the arguments orders are reasonably different. This thin wrapper will help
enforce the common interactive editing behavior.
This moves the config loading closer to CLI args where --tool=<name> option
will be processed. The factory function are proxied through the command helper
so that the base_ignores can be attached there later.
I'm going to add a prefix resolution method to OpStore, but OpStore is
unrelated to the index. I think ObjectId, HexPrefix, and PrefixResolution can
be extracted to this module.
It seems better to have the caller pass the transaction description
when we finish the transaction than when we start it. That way we have
all the information we want to include more readily available.
Renamed `description_template_for_commit` to
`description_template_for_describe` since it's only used in
`cmd_describe`.
Renamed `description_template_for_cmd_split` to
`description_template_for_commit` and modified to accomodate empty
`intro` argument.
